Why this program?

IBSU’s PhD programme in International Relations is taught in English and has a strong focus on research. The programme accepts only a few students and aims at training them as scholars. The intensive core courses on International Relations theory and research methods ensure the students’ understanding of the epistemological and ontological issues of field, while the opportunity of academic practice guarantees that students are able not only to receive knowledge but also to pass it on to others. By becoming one of IBSU’s professors’ assistant, PhD students can apply their skills in practice. Finally, allowing sufficiently long period for completing students’ own research, the programme creates special environment so that students can make best of their time at IBSU.

It is a very contemporary program, with newest literature in international relations, up-to-date curricula, syllabi and teaching methods taught by very qualified staff with the appropriate Scientific, teaching and practical (Ambassadors and Diplomats) experience. Almost all graduates and current students work at the different public and private organizations and educational institutions, five people work at IBSU. 
Research and Publication Opportunities: Students can hold research publish their articles in IBSU journal of Education, participate for free in the annual conference on IR organized by the Faculty of Social Sciences and annual International Silk Road Conference held by IBSU, to give the lecture courses at their field.
Employability skills
Knowledge of sphere – Politics and International Relations, ability to make up and assess curricula and syllabi, to give lecture courses, to prepare project proposals and do research, write scientific papers and reports in politics and international relations. 
Career Opportunities: University Professor, scientific researches, diplomats at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or to be involved at the International Relations or other appropriate Departments at the different Ministries and Municipal bodies, administrative personnel in the field of International relations.
Admission 
A person is admitted to the programme if
  • Information about education and practical experience of the applicant (CV);
  • The applicant possesses a Master’s degree;  
  • If s/he passes the university internal exam in English language equivalent to B2 level;
  • If s/he Submits and gets positive assessment for PhD dissertation proposal by a commission.
  • If her/his interview based on the proposal will be assed positively.
Candidates are freed from English language exam if
  • Those candidates who have international English language certificate equivalent to B2 level (TOEFL IBT, IELTS and FCE) are not required to take the exam in English language;
  • Those candidates who have graduated from educational program (instruction language – foreign language) during last three years and their GPA is at least 75 (out of 100) or 3(out of 4), are free from passing foreign language examination.
